Day 1 evening

Well, we have settled in. Had a good lunch and off to the City Mall. It was just like any major mall in the states, except the mall cops carry automatic rifles. We exchanged money and walked around.

Matt found us a church and we all went to mass. Rumor has it that a few people slept during the sermon.

After church we had a nice dinner: pork, rice and salad with juice.

We take turns doing dishes and cleaning up.

We had a short briefing on what will take place on Monday, our first day of work.

We started playing cards to close the night out. Peter and Steven Basile make a good team.

I have attached a few pictures towrap up the day.

Oh,my girl friend Maryjo packed alot of treats for us to have on this trip .

All in all a great way to spend my 58th birthday. Great group of people.

Leaving Atlanta and arriving in Honduras

well, Steven Basile and I were upgraded to first class. We had steak for lunch.
It was a 3 hour flight, smooth.
It took about 1 hour to get through customs.
Matt is a very good leader. Keeps us on track.
We had about a total of 30 bags with carry on.

I have put pictures of us leaving Atlanta and getting to the retreat house.
Enjoy, more later.

In Atlanta

One more stop then we will be in San Pedro Sula. We are going to meet our last member, she is coming from Baltimore and joining us in Atlanta.

At the Airport

Pictures of the group at DTW getting together for the trip.

Leaving on a jet plane

So many songs come to mind as I wake up this morning. It is 3 o'clock in the morning... and of course, It's your birthday.... We are up and ready to go, waiting for our ride to pick us up and go to the airport.

UDJHSA Summer trips to San Pedro Sula

UDJHSA has been going to San Pedro Sula for 3 years and they have posted stories about their various trips. Please go to this link to see what they have done. We are going to finish the work they started with this school.

Where are we going ?

I wanted everybody to know the name of the place we are going and also the group that puts these mission trips toegther.

So where are we going, San Pedro Sula, Honduras and we will be working with people living in and around the garbage dump in San Pedro Sula. I will be gone from July 31 – August 6, 2011.

We have 11 people goig on this trip. They are: Matthew Ippel(IS Trip Leader),Steve Kovach,Nicholas Kovach,Peter Kovach,Katherine Julissa Major-‐Campsie,John Napolitano,Paul Napolitano,Steven Basile,Ashlynne Basile,Tim Storch,Ben Rossi. In fact 7 of the team members are graduates of UDJHSA (graduates run the years from 1984up to 2011). Way to go CUBS !!!

The group that puts on these trips is called the International Samaritan. The International Samaritan strives to build good communities for the people living in and around city garbage dumps. Garbage dump dwellers are some of the poorest people in the world.

They have a web page and here is the link. Check them out.

Keep us in your prayers .

I look forward to posting thouhgts and pictures of our trip and sharing them with you.
